titles for process book

trying out an idea for the process book with titles. this first one is the cover, to be cut out of kraft paper like i did for the type specimen. the black rectangle from the next page will fill the type.

Book Series, Part 1

narrowed the space between "the" and "sea," made the name smaller and more spaced out.

now i'm figuring out the back and spine...

YOU

quickly tried a few alternate fonts for the big "you" spread of the type specimen. here's the original in firmin didot:

took out the unnecessary period:

made the background 'you's italic:

some other fonts I tried but so far I still prefer the firmin didot:

would love your suggestions!

back to type specimen

Here's where I'm at right now with the type specimen:

this is the older version of spread 3:

new version. tightened up the type on the left and tried to fix the space under "suffering." tried switching the glyphs on the two "f"s but i think i like the first way better...more tortured, like wringing hands...also tried spacing out the mrs eaves smallcaps at the bottom. what do you think? would love to hear your feedback.

older version of spread 4:

version 2:

eliminating all the bold:

next is that big "you" page that folds out. will post trials of that in the next post. here's spread 6. i wanted it to be really minimal and quiet, to follow the big, strong YOU. but too minimal?

haven't spent much time on this spread. going to have to do a lot of trials i think. is any of it working so far?

in the specimen i showed in class, i had printed out the "remembered" on the facing page and cut it out to paste over the text type. it created a window which i ended up really liking so i'm going to keep the hole in the final.

identity - cumulus records!

starting to play with business card ideas. this is too expensive to be practical but i couldn't help making it the cloud shape

adding "records"

focusing on "cumulus records." using end of "S" to start (simpler) cloud. trying out blues.

first pass. trying a couple different fake record labels: cumulus records and salty records

borrowing imagery from salt packets:

name game

thought it would be fun to make up a record label for the branding project.

some name brainstorming:

cumulus records
ampersand records (also: ellipsis, prime, double prime, underscore)
atlantic-pacific records (also: smith/9th) - too long/awkward probably but i liked the idea of naming it after a subway station
telegraph records (also: bancroft)
5'9" records
sunday morning records

UPDATE:
man, i'm having too much fun thinking of fake record labels (salty, hidden, golden bear, golden cnut, freshmade...) and trying all of them out that i can't pick one! Leaning towards 'salty records' right now...
maybe i'll just focus on that one for now and i can always come back to a different one later...
